Waiting in line can be a great opportunity to get to know your children better and learn more about yourself. There are many things you can do to pass the time.

1. If you are by yourself, practice your observation skills. Look around and evaluate people’s clothing. Determine what is in style. Is short hair still in style of young men? Are flares going out of style? What are the new styles? You will undoubtedly see some very amusing outfits walking around.
2. If you are with your children, start playing “first and lasts.” In this game you pick a category such as toys, movies, food, or animals. One person begins by naming something from that category. Then, the next person names something that begins with the letter the last thing named ended with. For example, the first person may say “Tiger” and the next person “Rat.” Make the game harder by not repeating any items, or only naming items that you can see around you.
