Preparing for an Adventure in Africa

April 29, 2010 :: Posted by - TravelPro :: Category - Good to Know

The excitement is building as you prepare for your trip to Africa. You can already smell the exotic food, hear the cultural drums, and feel the weight of the hot sun beating down on you. The anticipated adventure is still several weeks away, but you want to be fully prepared to thoroughly enjoy your experience. Here are several things you should consider incorporating into your preparation for the trip.

  1. Learn how to negotiate with the form of payment the native people are used to using. If they realize that you do not know what you are doing they will charge you three times the amount they would normally charge.
  2. Do not make plans that involve traveling after 10pm by yourself. There are highway robbers who sometimes take items from travelers and then kill them.
  3. Remember that most people are friendly and willing to help you, but there are a few exceptions that ruin the reputation of Africa.
  4. It is also important to know a little of the language that is spoken in the area you will go to. Unlike many other nations, English is not taught on a wide basis in some areas.  if you do not know some of the basic phrases of the native language, it will be difficult to get help when you need it.
