Everyone is turning their head towards Pennsylvania and wondering whether the ground hog will see his shadow on Groundhog Day. Groundhog Day is becoming a more widely celebrated and followed tradition in America.

Groundhog Day has traditionally been held annually on February 2^nd. This is the day that indicates when winter will end. The myth indicates that if the groundhog comes out of his burrow and does not see his shadow, winter will end quickly. However, if he does see his shadow he will go back into his burrow, indicating that winter will last another six weeks.

This tradition began as a Pennsylvania German tradition and is still celebrated in Pennsylvania. The largest celebration of this day takes place in Punxsutawney. Over 40,000 people attend the event annually since 1886.

This year Punxsutawney plans to host Mary McCaslin concerts, traditionally cookies, and a speech by Stephen Tobolowsky, the star in the movie Groundhog Day. There will also be many more performances as well as the long awaited viewing of whether the ground hog Phil, will see his shadow.
