Unusual Lodging Options

November 06, 2009 :: Posted by - Getaway Guru :: Category - Buildings, Good to Know, Interest
Traveling has just as many personalities as there are people. I’ve found that there are some really unusual lodging options around the world. This list barely scratches the surface, but here are a few that I found really interesting:

Ice Hotel in Quebec: In this chilly stay the hotel is made completely out of ice! The sculptures are absolutely beautiful and they even serve some of their beverages in glasses made out of ice.

Italy Monasteries: Another interesting option is to stay in a monastery. Monasteries are most easily found in Italy and offer a quiet and peaceful experience. The prices are often lower to stay in a monastery too!

Hydropolis: Located underwater in Dubai,  this hotel follows Dubai’s reputation of fantastic modern construction. This hotel is scheduled to open this year, but there are other underwater hotels around the world where guests also enjoy the underwater view and scuba diving among many other activities.

The Boot Breakfast n’ Bed: A return to Mother Goose’s Rhymes, this hotel is shaped like a boot.

Tree House: Near Stolkholm, Sweden, this hotel is actually located in trees! If you have a head for heights, this place has a great view and fun atmosphere.

Chino Bandido

If you are looking for something a little bit different try the Mexican-Chinese fusion of Chino Bandido.  You won’t find anything like this place.  While the ordering system is a little complex you won’t be disappointed with the delicious combination of Mexican and Chinese flavors.  Be sure to try their quesadillas.   http://www.chinobandido.com/

Shadowbrook Capitola Review

November 04, 2009 :: Posted by - Travel Troll :: Category - Restaurant

For over 60 years, Shadowbrook Restaurant has been located in Capitola, California. The food is good, but the scenery is great. The area surrounding the restaurant will take your breath away and the actual restaurant has a lot of charm. You can take a cable car to get to the restaurant or walk to the restaurant in a nature path. Whether you want dinner, lunch, or Sunday brunch you can find get it at Shadowbrook. If you are going to Shadowbrook- go for the experience, not necessarily the food.
